Art As Prayer, Windows to the Divine
October 22, 2009
7:00 pm – 8:30 pm :: Cost - $5
Join the Mizel Museum, the Colorado Dominican Vocation Foundation and local artists for a unique visual presentation and discussion of art as prayer across religions. Windows to the Divine® features original works of art from emerging and renowned artists. Many spiritual paths are represented, including artists from the Jewish, Christian and Native American traditions. Subjects also include landscapes, figures, still-life and contemporary.

The Colorado Dominican Vocation Foundation (CDVF), in collaboration with the Mizel Museum, will host the sixth Fra Angelico Celebration of Art & Spirituality at the MADDEN Museum in Greenwood Village during the month of October. The focal point of the Fra Angelico Celebration is the Windows to the Divine Art Exhibition and Sale that showcases the works of more than 70 established and emerging local artists as well as works of nationally renowned artists such as Kim English, Tammy Garcia, Albert Handell, Quang Ho, William Hook, Ramon Kelley, Emilio Lobato, Laura Merage, Ron Richmond, Daniel Sprick, and Nancy Switzer. Windows to the Divine is one-of-a-kind in the breadth and spectrum of work exhibited as “spiritual art.” The content of the juried show is not confined to explicitly religious or sacred subjects, but also includes diverse styles ranging from representational to realistic to contemporary and traditional ethnographic. Many spiritual paths are represented, including artists from the Christian, Jewish and Native American traditions. The CDVF partners with other cultural institutions like the Mizel Museum in order to foster multicultural dialogue and to create opportunities for people of diverse traditions to understand better the sacred nature of all creation.

The CDVF and the Mizel Museum will also host other special programs at the MADDEN such as the Windows to the Divine High School Art Competition on October 15 and “Art as Prayer: Windows to the Divine” on October 22. The CDVF is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization that promotes interfaith dialogue and the vocations of the artist and the Dominican Order. For more information, contact Shannon Robinson at (303) 679-1365 or email: sar.pc@att.net or visit our website www.cdvf.org (upcoming events).
