At the Mizel Museum we believe that learning is fun and lifelong when creativity and discovery are at the center. With this in mind we developed Creative Journeys – artist-in-residence programs for preschoolers through grade schoolers on off-school days in December and and during the summer. Now in its third year, each program is a unique journey focused on culture and creativity in its many forms: visual arts, storytelling, music, puppetry, movement and more. The Mizel Museum’s events for Denver area students are engaging and meaningful. “Gathering sparks,” a central theme of 4,000 Year Road Trip: Gathering Sparks, is often understood to be the origin of tikkun olam, which is Hebrew for “healing the world.” By promoting civic engagement through special events for students, we hope to inspire them to live and grow in the spirit of tikkun olam.
The Power of Civic Engagement: Step Into Leadership features Carlotta Walls LaNier, one of the Little Rock Nine, who today is a pioneer in civic engagement. In this program Carlotta is joined Living Word Architect, community builder and youth advocate, Adrian Molina as host, with human rights activists Helen Giron and Sheldon Steinhauser. Step Into Leadership is open to all middle and high school students.
Classes, workshops and events for adults are designed to cultivate expression and promote dialogue. In keeping with the theme of journeys, our accessible programs explore narrative and the arts in various types of dynamic media, such as digital storytelling, collage and montage, visual arts. Creative Sundays Workshops offer a means of expression and a chance to gain clarity and enjoy community during our complex lives. Contemplative Hatha Yoga and Jewish Meditation classes stimulate the body and spirit. And Salon Nights are a meaningful evening out featuring interesting discussion topics and great wine and food.
Programs are held throughout the year to give families to experience and explore the Mizel Museum together. Families can visit and tour 4,000 Year Road Trip: Gathering Sparks during open hours, and join us for special family events throughout the year.
