Tu B’Shevat Green Seder Sunday, February 8, 2009 3:00 PM at the Mizel Museum, $5 adult / $3 child Celebrating our 2nd annual collaboration with Judaism Your Way, Rabbi Brian Field will re-create a meaningful Tu B’Shevat seder – resplendent with a spectrum of fruits of the trees, music, art activities for children and family fun, with an honoring-of-the-earth green event. Call 303 394-9993, Ext. 104 to make reservations or email dkapnik@mizelmuseum.org Tu B'Shevat 15th of Shevat, 5769: February 9, 2009 Tu B'Shevat was originally a tax day beginning the fiscal new year for trees and their fruit in the land of Israel. For Jews living outside Israel, we celebrate our connection to the land of Israel by eating fruit, and nuts, particularly from the kinds that are singled out by the Torah: grapes, figs, pomegranates, olives and dates. During a Tu B'Shevat seder, participants think about how dependant humanity is on the earth and its produce for sustenance. Some seders focus on the environment, some on appreciating the earth's bounty, and some on the Jewish mystical tradition relative to the earth. People also plant trees or buy trees to plant in Israel. |
