DIGITAL STORYTELLING
AT THE MIZEL MUSEUM

In Fall, 2008, The Mizel Museum began to build a permanent exhibit of digital stories with members of the Denver Jewish community. We worked with the Center for Digital Storytelling to create a new permanent exhibit with members of the Denver Jewish community. This resulted in ten 3-minute stories that were part of a community effort designed to engage outstanding candidates willing to share personal stories of resilience in a digital narrative. They were paired with ten members from the community who supported, aided and help develop and refine these works of art.

Ten participants from Denver's Jewish community and 10 assistants took part in a three-day workshop at the Mizel Museum. Stories of Resilience was conceived as part of an exploration and interpretation of resilience from the perspective of the storyteller. At different points on life’s journey, we have faced decisions and choices that shifted values, self-perceptions, world view, attitudes, and actions. Framed within the context of resilience, the workshop focuses on the life-changing events to create a narration of how those perceptions were altered in the participant’s lives. Stories of Resilience was shaped by the knowledge that each of us have participated in life-altering experiences.

The library will continue to grow with the help of Sari Horovitz and the staff of The Mizel Museum.  If you would like to suggest great local candidates for our story library, please ask them to call (303) 394-9993 ext. 104 or email Deanne Kapnik, Special Projects Manager.
