Cooking Jewcy: The Tradition Kitchen Instructor: Debbie Foster All classes are on Sundays 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm Location: Kitchen Location in Lowry given at time of registration. December 6, Crispy and Delicious; Cooking for Hanukkah Fee: $40 Jewish cooking is rich with history and memories, fresh ingredients and of course a little humor. The Jewish year provides the framework – holidays laden with hands-on rituals to help us experience living a Jewcy life. The Tradition Kitchen is a place you will not only learn to make Jewish foods…but you’ll learn the reasons behind them too. Jewish Food keeps the Jewish traditions alive. What would Passover be without Matzo Ball Soup or Hanukkah without Latkes? You will learn grocery store short cuts and techniques you’ll use again and again. If you already cook a lot and want to share your skills, we will learn from you! Whether we cook for a specific holiday or anytime Jewish family recipes, you will connect to Jewcy traditions and eat them all up. The Tradition Kitchen is a Kosher-style kitchen meaning we do not mix meat and milk products or cook with any pork or shellfish items. Debbie Foster, the founder of “The Tradition Kitchen” is a self-trained cook, Jewish educator, author and illustrator. Her memories of cooking and baking with her Grandma Beverly and celebrating Shabbat every week are central to her deep connection to her Jewish roots and the Jewish community. Debbie wants to help others find meaningful ways to feel included and empowered to live Jewishly, and believes that learning how to make matzo ball soup is a great way to start. Debbie is adept at creating hands-on Jewish experiences within every demographic. Over the past 10 years, she developed and implemented programs for the Mizel Museum, Stepping Stones to a Jewish Me, Temple Emanuel, Denver Academy of Torah, Herzl Jewish Day School, Colorado Agency for Jewish Education, Mizel Center for Arts & Culture, Shwayder Camp, Kohelet, Allied Jewish Federation, and young professional groups. Artful Self Instructor: Erin Brunleve Classes are every Monday 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm Mondays, November 16, 23, 30, December 7 & 14 Fee: $100.00 for 5 sessions Using paint and collage with Russian Matryoshka, nesting dolls, as our vehicle, we will explore the connection between our creativity and our identity through teachings on a variety of symbols that have been used to inform and express “the self” throughout human history. A trained artist and art therapist will also facilitate feedback in examining our own process through journaling and poetry. No prior art experience is needed. Erin Brunleve has worked in the intersecting fields of fine arts, arts education, and the healing arts for the past ten years. She holds a BFA from the University of Kansas with an emphasis in Painting. In 2005, she earned an MFA Degree in Art Therapy Counseling from Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville. Her background includes teaching art in a K-8 school and extensive experience with several community arts agencies. As a working artist, Erin continues to create and exhibit her own work. |
