CALL FOR OBJECTS The Mizel Museum is seeking objects, artifacts and contemporary artwork for its new, permanent exhibition, 4,000 Year Road Trip: Gathering Sparks, slated for opening August 2010. Mizel Museum curator, Georgina Kolber, is searching for privately owned Jewish objects, Jewish artifacts and or contemporary Jewish artwork to enhance an exciting new exhibition about Jewish life and culture that will bring cultural awareness to local citizens and visitors. The museum is particularly interested in ritual objects about Torah stories, haggadot or sidurrim of unusual derivation, Jewish pioneer pieces and unique objects that tell the story of the Diaspora. The Mizel Museum presents Encaustic Painting and Personal Expression with Deborah Howard Two Day Workshop at the Mizel Museum Sunday, June 27 9:00 am - 5:00 pm Monday, June 28 9:00 am - 12:30 pm $175 | Materials fee: encaustic paint, supplies & equipment, $60 Encaustic is an ancient Egyptian painting medium using molten wax mixed with colored pigments. This medium will be demonstrated and the process introduced through hands-on application of encaustic painting medium and photo transfers. Participants will use photo copies in this work. Shavuot A major Jewish festival held on the 6th (and usually the 7th) of Sivan, falls on May 19th and 20th, 2010. It takes place fifty days after the second day of Passover. It was originally a harvest festival, but now also commemorates the giving of the Law (the Torah). Also called the Feast of Weeks, special observances takes place in synagogue, which are sometimes decorated with greenery and flowers, and a festive dairy meal is eaten. Many communities host an all night learn-a-thon. |
