“The Band’s Visit” tells the story of an Arab music band made up of members of the Egyptian police force who head to Israel to play at the inaugural ceremony of an Arab cultural center, only to find themselves lost in a small Israeli town in the heart of the desert.
Faced with an unknown landscape, the men head to a small café in the nearby town and humbly ask the proprietor, Dina, for lunch. Dina invites the men to stay with her and a few friends for the night. Discussions and interactions revolve not around the political issues that divide the two cultures, but on the intimate details of their personal lives that bring them together, forming a bridge of compassion and understanding.
When the band leaves in the morning for their intended destination, it is clear that their unplanned detour was worth the trip.
