The dinner will take place on Thursday, May 31 at Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum, 7711 East Academy Parkway, Denver. The evening begins at 6:00 PM with cocktails, followed by a buffet dinner. Previous dinners have drawn nearly 1,600 people each year to honor such recipients as Governor Bill Owens, Peter Coors, Chancellor Dan Ritchie, Arlene Hirschfeld, Cortlandt S. Dietler, and last year’s recipient, Raymond T. Baker.
This year’s honoree, Mayor John Hickenlooper, was selected for the fresh energy and optimism he brings to Denver and for his demonstrated determination to make our city’s cultural offerings world class. Mayor Hickenlooper has been active in civic and community affairs for many years and has dedicated himself to enhancing life for all people who live in Denver.
Named by TIME Magazine as one of America’s five best big-city mayors, Hickenlooper actively supported the new opera auditorium and Denver Art Musuem extension, as well as the commissioning of a new Contemporary Art Gallery. In an October 2005 poll for the Rocky Mountain News, the mayor’s approval rating was a whopping 86 per cent among city residents. His popularity is warmly echoed in the nickname most of his constituents know him by: Mayor Hick.
